Tonight Isabelle took her first steps....two to be exact! We were playing in the family room and she walked from the end table over to me. She's been pulling up on everything and transferring from one piece of furniture to the next, but tonight were the first actual "steps". The first of many I'm sure. How exciting!!!

What could make for a better Mother's Day than my Angel saying Momma for the first time! Okay, so it wasn't exactly on Mother's Day, but it was the week prior....and I couldn't have been happier. For all the moms out there, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It may be the sweetest word I've ever heard!
My first Mother's Day was very special. My Belle, with the help of Daddy (or likely the other way around), made me a very special gift. They gave me a (homemade) concrete stepping stone with Isabelle's footprints and the date stamped in it. Guess that explains the concrete I washed from her toes that night in the bathtub....So thoughtful and original...I love it!

Okay, we are a little behind in our blog....so tonight I'm playing catch up.....
We took Isabelle to an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist in April due to chronic ear infections. She had six ear infections in five months and her pediatrician had been treating them with antibiotics. With the most recent infection, she had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic, so we scheduled an appointment for an ENT consult.
In April 17th we took her in for surgery. The procedure itself is short and easy, however the recover for a 10 month old isn't. She freaked out when she woke up from the anesthesia and cried for hours...it was really weird....like she didn't even know who we were. She also had complications with one ear bleeding, but after a few calls to and from the doctor, we were able to get through the complication.
However, during her post-op appointment, the doctor discovered that one of the tubes was closed, probably from the post-op bleeding. This was quite an ordeal in that he had to "operate" on the tube in his office. The good news is that he was able to open it, and therefore we did not have to go in for a replacement procedure.
We are looking forward to having less infections now that we have the tubes in.

I have added four new photos...
We went to the doctor today for two reasons. First, the nine month checkup. Everything was great. The doctor said she would never know Isabelle was a preemie. She is 27" long (50th percentile), 16.6 lbs. (10th percentile) and 43 CM head circumference (25th percentile). The doctor said she was developing normally (except for not saying mama).
The other reason we went is to have her ears checked again.. She just finished her third round of antibiotics for ear infections and it appears that this last round didn't kill it all. So she gave us a different one to try. If this one doesn't cure her in ten days, then Isabelle is a candidate for tubes. Both mom and I had them so it's not really a big deal. Along with this ear infection she has had temperatures over 100 degrees for the last couple of days. The doctor said it was a symptom of the ear infection and should go away if the new antibiotics work.
Last but not least, opening day for baseball is today, March 31, 2008. Go Reds...
That's all for now.
Isabelle has figured it out. She can now get up on her hands and knees and crawl to us. This isn't a full crawl with both arms and legs moving, it's a 1/2 crawl (arms only). It's hard to describe but once she's in the crawl position she uses her arms to pull herself toward us. It's kind of like a military crawl. If you've seen teh movies where soldiers are in basic training and they are crawling in the mud with bard wire over their heads, it's very similar to that. Soon I expect her to get the legs moving at the same time and then we are in trouble.
She has also mastered putting her hands on the floor and raising her butt in the air with her feet on the ground. It's like she's making a body bridge.
I'll post some pics. and maybe a short video to explain what's happening.
Today is February 23, 2008 and we see the first speck of tooth coming in. Isabelle's bottom front right tooth is starting to pierce the gumline. Luckily she isn't teething too badly and crying all the time, she is a trooper. Also, the same tooth on the other side is barely showing, not nearly as much but it will soon follow.
We had Isabelle's pictures made last weekend. They are available for viewing for 90 days. If you go to:

Over the last few days, Belle and I have had a chance to bond. Laura has been at her sales meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona leaving us to solve the worlds problems (I have a new appreciation for single parents trying to rear infants). Part of this bonding has included a lot of "talking." She just rambles and babbles and I sort of do the same, encouraging her to say whatever is on her mind. During our chats the last couple of days she has said "Dada" or some variation of the word. At first I didn't think much of it but today when I picked her up from daycare, her teacher told me that she kept saying Dada all day long. Now, in no way do I think that she is equating me to Dada, but I find it an honor that our daughter has chosen that word to be her first.
I knew she was a Daddy's girl, sorry Laura (plus Dada is easier to say than Mama).
